Lordrush Gem Spending Guide: What Is Actually Worth Gems

Quick answer: For most F2P players, gems belong in Hero Roulette and occasional second construction queue rentals during real build pushes. Everything else needs to justify itself. Random pulls, resource packs, speedups, shop refreshes, and direct VIP XP are usually bad trades.

Gems are the easiest resource to waste in Lordrush because the game gives you constant small reasons to spend them. A few hundred here, a few thousand there, and suddenly Hero Roulette appears while your gem count is empty.

This guide is strict on purpose. F2P and low-spend accounts do not lose because they skipped one speedup purchase. They lose because the gems that should have become hero shards got chopped up into resources, refreshes, and random convenience.

Gem Priority List

RankGem useVerdict
1Hero Roulette 10-spinsBest long-term F2P hero value
2Second construction queue rentalGood during planned build pushes
3VIP activationUseful only when your VIP level and activity justify it
4Advanced teleportsSituational for alliance movement and danger
5ShieldsEmergency only if free sources are not enough
AvoidSpeedups, resources, random chests, VIP XPUsually traps

If you remember one rule, make it this: do not spend gems on things you can reliably earn for free.

Hero Roulette Comes First

Hero Roulette is the main reason to save gems. Current Lordrush planning uses the same basic cost structure already covered in the F2P guide: 1,500 gems per spin or 13,500 gems per 10-spin.

Ten-spins are better because they save gems and make milestone planning cleaner. Single spins feel cheap, but repeated single spins are how players quietly bleed value.

For Gen 1 Lordrush, do not chase every shiny hero equally. Use the Lordrush hero tier list before committing. Porter has account-growth value, Isabelle is the safest accessible Legendary, and Sebastian is strong but spender-leaning. Those are very different gem decisions.

Try to spend Hero Roulette gems during the right Hall of Governors stage when possible. The same spins can move your hero forward and score event points.

Second Construction Queue

The second builder rental costs 1,000 gems for 2 days. That is one of the few non-hero gem spends I like for F2P players, but only during a real push.

Rent it when:

  • You have enough resources to keep both queues busy.
  • You are pushing Town Center or a major prerequisite.
  • A construction scoring event is active or coming soon.
  • You can log in enough to restart finished builds.

Skip it when:

  • You are resource blocked.
  • You will only log in once.
  • Both available builds are low priority.
  • You are renting it just because the button is there.

Low spenders should strongly consider the permanent extra construction queue if it is available as an early one-time pack. A permanent builder keeps paying you back every day; a resource pack is gone the moment you spend it.

The building priority guide explains which buildings deserve that second queue.

VIP Activation

VIP can be good, but not every VIP spend is good.

Activating VIP makes sense when:

  • Your VIP level has perks you actually care about.
  • You are actively playing that month.
  • You have major construction, gathering, or event plans.
  • You are not sacrificing a target Hero Roulette cycle to keep weak VIP active.

Avoid buying VIP XP directly with gems. VIP XP comes from normal activity, events, and spending paths. Direct gem-to-VIP-XP purchases usually delay stronger hero investment.

For most F2P players, VIP activation is a secondary use after hero planning. Do not keep VIP active just to feel efficient if it empties your roulette fund.

Teleports And Shields

Advanced teleports are not a daily purchase. They are a tool for alliance movement, escaping danger, joining key territory, or preparing for a major war window.

Shields are similar. You should get as many as possible through normal sources before buying with gems. A gem shield is acceptable when the alternative is losing troops or exposed resources, but it should not become your normal resource-management plan.

Better habits:

  • Keep resources in backpack until needed.
  • Stay near your alliance.
  • Follow server NAP and event rules.
  • Shield before sleeping during dangerous windows.
  • Do not attack cities if you need your shield to stay up.

The resource protection guide covers when shielding is actually worth it.

What Not To Buy With Gems

Speedups

Speedups are useful. Buying them with gems is usually not. Events, daily activity, and alliance rewards give speedups over time. Gems should become hero shards, not a few hours off a timer.

The rare exception is a final event push where a small gem spend unlocks a much larger reward. Even then, check the math first.

Resource Packs

Resources are gatherable. Spending gems on basic resources is almost always a panic move caused by poor planning. Gather, use backpack items, ask your alliance about resource timing, and build during event windows.

Random Hero Pulls

Random pulls are where gems go to disappear. Hero Roulette gives a focused path. Random pulls scatter fragments across heroes you may never build.

Shop Refreshes

Most refreshes are a trap. Refreshing only makes sense when the shop has a specific high-value item and the refresh cost is clearly smaller than the value gained. That is uncommon.

VIP XP

Direct VIP XP is a long-term trap for F2P players. You are converting your best flexible currency into a slow account perk instead of saving for hero power.

F2P Gem Plan

A simple F2P gem plan looks like this:

  1. Keep a small emergency reserve.
  2. Rent the second builder only during planned pushes.
  3. Save most gems for Hero Roulette 10-spins.
  4. Spend roulette gems during Hall of Governors when possible.
  5. Skip gem traps even when they look cheap.

This is not glamorous, but it works. One focused hero target beats a month of tiny convenience buys.

Low-Spender Gem Plan

Low spenders can loosen the rules slightly, but the priority is still the same.

Best low-spend upgrades:

  • Permanent extra construction queue, if available.
  • Monthly or pass-style purchases only if the reward track is strong.
  • Event packs that support a specific target, not random resource bundles.
  • Hero-focused spending when it lines up with your roster plan.

Even if you spend, random gem use is still bad. Spending money does not make resource packs or random chests efficient.

Common Gem Mistakes

  • Doing single Hero Roulette spins instead of saving for 10-spins.
  • Buying speedups because a building has a few hours left.
  • Renting the second builder with no resources ready.
  • Activating VIP when you are barely playing.
  • Buying resources instead of gathering.
  • Refreshing shops without a specific target.
  • Spending gems before checking Hall of Governors.
  • Splitting gems across too many heroes.
